May I asked Mr. Chan Pui to send someone down to examine the accounts as the shroffs did not have time to do it, and that I did not think it correct for the shroffs to check their own accounts.

Mr. Chan Pui spoke to the Asst. Harbour Laster then wrote saying the Asst. Harbour Master examined their accounts every day and he (Mr. Chan Pui) did not think it worth while one of the clerks doing it, also that the Assistant Harbour Kaster directed that in future one of the clerks would copy the entries in the shroffs books. (copy of correspundence between Lir. Chan Pui and myself attached).

Even at this time I was not referred to by the Harbour

Master or Assistant Harbour Mester and I still understood that no

responsibility for the Cash Book lay with me.
